Early Marsh Orchid is widespread but seldom abundant (apart from in dune populations) in the U.K. It can be split into several highly distinctive subspecies of which ssp. ochroleuca is by far the rarest - indeed it is now critically endangered, being found at just one site in the whole of the U.K., in Suffolk (and some years very few plants flower even there). Although 2008 was quite a poor year for this subspecies I managed to photograph several examples.
